LEGO Ideas reveals results of two fan-fuelled challenges

The LEGO Ideas team has had a busy start to the week, revealing the results of two challenges and a first look at some potential future LEGO Ideas sets.

With the results of the ’90s Throwback and Build from the Heart challenges now revealed, there are five potential future LEGO Ideas sets and another now officially confirmed. In the case of the former, the fan vote for the retro ’90s builds is now open, so only one set will be selected to become an actual LEGO Ideas set.

For the Build from the Heart Challenge, the selected build has already been through a fan vote so is now officially confirmed to be a LEGO Ideas set, in collaboration with Target. Read on for a closer look at all of the fan-designed builds.

Build Your Nostalgia – ’90s Throwback!

The Build Your Nostalgia – ’90s Throwback challenge page has been updated with its five finalists, selected by the LEGO Ideas team and now going head-to-head in a fan vote. While in theory only one set will be selected, two were picked from the ’80s version of this challenge, so if the votes are there, perhaps more could be successful.

At this stage, the finalists are: BRICK PROJECT’s Jumanji; Castor-Troy’s Edward Scissorhands; vjw1978’s Buffy the Vampire Slayer Library; BrentWaller’s The X-Files: The Truth Is Out There; and CUBETTARO’s “The FIFTH ELEMENT” Book Nook and Playset. The fan vote is already live here, so if you’re a member of the LEGO Ideas community, head over there and vote. If you’re not, it’s free to sign up so you can still get involved. There are 11 days left to vote.

LEGO Ideas Build from the Heart

Congratulations to fan builder ModularManiac and his Love Birds for winning the fan vote and being confirmed as a LEGO Ideas set. The romantic build features two love birds sitting in a pink-leafed tree, combining what people love about both Botanicals and the LEGO Art Flora & Fauna fledgling sub-theme.

“Love birds were chosen as they are well known for staying together,” wrote the LEGO Ideas team in the announcement blog post. “So not only is this design a stunning display piece it also has layers, symbolism, and meaning woven through this heart-warming brick-build.”

It’s worth noting that the LEGO Ideas team could still make changes to the build and it might be some time before we see the final product. For now, here’s a reminder of everything in production.

I write about all the very best fandoms – and that means LEGO, of course. Spending so much time looking at and talking about LEGO sets is dangerous for my bank balance, but the LEGO shelves are thriving. You win some, you lose some.
