LEGO Minecraft could be about to shake up its minifigures

Minecraft's blocky style has led to some unique LEGO minifigures – but that could all be about to change, if the latest rumours are true.

LEGO Minecraft minifigures have had unique features since their debut, with square heads that reflect how the mobs and characters look in-game. However, the world of Minecraft is about to change, with the live-action movie bringing something new to the lore. While some figures are still blocky – peep the bcursed pink sheep below – Jack Black will play Steve, the main character, entirely as himself.

That means the square-headed minifigures will no longer be as accurate, so any sets based on the live-action Minecraft movie might need an update. The latest rumours from the typically reliable Instagram user lego_minecraft_goat suggest that 21272 Woodland Mansion and 21273 Ghast Balloon could be based on the film – although that's not confirmed just yet.

We could therefore see regular minifigure heads on Minecraft minifigures in those sets, bringing the characters from the movie to life. While most of the cast are real-world people who end up transplanted in the world of Minecraft, that does include Jack Black's Steve, opening the door for a second version of the iconic figure.

Naturally, this is just speculation for now and we'll need to wait for an official reveal from the LEGO Group until we know for sure. It's also entirely possible that the sets will just be based on scenes from the movie, sticking to the same traditional style for minifigures – or not based on the movie at all.
