LEGO Minifigures Series 29 spotlight: Monster Hunter

LEGO Minifigures Series 29 continues the LEGO Group’s brief foray into steampunk with the Monster Hunter, innovating in several different ways.

The Monster Hunter is one of the 12 new minifigures in 71052 Series 29, offering you a character to hunt down the various monstrous minifigures in your collection. She will also act as an action-packed counterpart to Series 27’s Steampunk Inventor.

The Monster Hunter is made up of seven pieces and one textile, two of which are entirely new for the portfolio. Starting from the top, the new hat and hair combination element may remind you of Angelica’s exclusive headgear from 4195 Queen Anne’s Revenge. There’s a striking similarity between these two pieces, but otherwise, the minifigure is innovative.

The printing on the Monster Hunter covers nearly everything on the character, and she comes complete with dual-moulded legs. This printing includes armour on the left arm and vials on the right, ready to fight any monsters that come her way.

Gold filigree across the outfit aligns well with the details of the Steampunk Inventor, creating a duo of steampunk minifigures that are still the only representation of the genre in the LEGO portfolio. You can also use the Monster Hunter as a great artificer minifigure from Dungeons & Dragons – especially an alchemist with those vials.

Both the Steampunk Inventor and Monster Hunter come with a gold handheld accessory, but only one of them is brand-new. The Monster Hunter’s weapon is a mix of a gun and a blade, with a more angled hilt than any other LEGO gun before it. This allows the new accessory to be held in a versatile manner.

LEGO weapons have never crossed paths in this way, and this is a major innovation for LEGO guns. It leans into fantasy more than normal LEGO guns, as well as those from Star Wars.

The other accessory in 71052 Series 29’s Monster Hunter is a poster of a monster currently being hunted. That monster is none other than the vampire from 31167 Haunted Mansion, who is also a reference to a character from Monster Fighters.

This multi-faceted Easter egg rounds out the part selection in 71052 Series 29’s Monster Hunter. They’re one of 12 new characters you find in the next series of minifigures coming out on May 1 for £3.49 / $4.99 / €3.99 each. Brick Search’s minifigure scanner can help you find the minifigures you desire with ease, and you can take a closer look at more of the Series 29 minifigures in our other spotlight features.

LEGO has been a part of my life ever since I was young. It all started when my brother passed down 7657 AT-ST to me. It’s guided me through my early years, through school and eventually through my degree in journalism. I still have all my collection proudly on display, including my many NINJAGO sets, my favourite of all the LEGO Group’s themes. Outside of Brick Fanatics I am an avid gamer and enjoy a good game of Dungeons & Dragons.
