LEGO Monkie Kid summer 2023 set names appear online
Details of four new LEGO Monkie Kid sets supposedly launching in summer 2023 have appeared online, among which is the theme’s second-biggest model to date.
At the moment, the largest LEGO Monkie Kid set of all time – by piece count – is summer 2022’s 80039 The Heavenly Realms, which tops out at 2,433 pieces. According to listings published by price comparison site brickmerge.de, the next wave of LEGO Monkie Kid sets will include a model that comes very close to matching that number.
80049 Dragon of the Eastern Palace is one of four Journey to the West-inspired sets apparently due out in June, and is said to contain 2,364 pieces. Few other details are available at the moment, including its price or how many minifigures it might include – let alone whether the focus of the set will be on the dragon or the palace. (Just imagine a 2,000-piece dragon, though.)
The other three sets are all comparatively mid-range in terms of piece count, but each sounds pretty promising from its product name alone. 80046 Monkie Kid’s Cloud Airship is the smallest of the four sets at 540 pieces, while 80047 Mei’s Guardian Dragon – said to include 605 pieces – might finally give us an actual dragon for Mei, instead of a dragon car or dragon jet.
Finally, 80048 The Mighty Azure Lion will seemingly offer one more brick-built animal within 789 pieces, in a considerably non-traditional colour scheme for a lion. There’s no word yet on prices for any of these models, but we’ll keep you posted as we learn more. For now, consider them unconfirmed until the LEGO Group officially unveils them – plenty could change between now and June.

- I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
