LEGO Nintendo Game Boy officially announced for 2025

Retro video game fans will be able to get their hands on a brick-built version of Nintendo’s classic Game Boy handheld console later this year.

The LEGO Group has revealed the first details of yet another licensed collaboration with Nintendo, this time bringing a brick-built version of the original handheld console to retro video game fans. A (very) short promo video for a LEGO Nintendo Game Boy set has dropped on official social media channels, with the model confirmed to be arriving October 2025.

While no specific release date, piece count, prices, images or even an associated theme have been revealed so far for the upcoming build, the LEGO Nintendo Game Boy is likely to be a 1:1 scale replica, similar to the previously released and soon-to-retire 71374 Nintendo Entertainment System.

That might mean we could potentially be looking at the set falling under the LEGO Icons banner, which would make perfect sense as the LEGO Nintendo Game Boy styling matches the overall grey colour scheme of 71374 Nintendo Entertainment System.

Other than that, we’re currently in the dark as to the actual design and any possible functional features of the LEGO Nintendo Game Boy. The promo video does show a selection of LEGO pieces representing the console’s black D-pad and magenta A and B buttons though, but that appears to be all for now.

The Nintendo Game Boy was first released in Japan way back in 1989, before going on to become a cultural icon that sold over a staggering 119.69 million units worldwide. The handheld console utilised small game cartridges that slotted into the back of the Game Boy, a feature we’d definitely like to see included in the upcoming LEGO version.

We’ll be sure to bring you a first look and additional details regarding the LEGO Nintendo Game Boy as soon as we have more information.
