LEGO One Piece sets are proving to be popular already

The two biggest LEGO One Piece sets have proven to be popular, and they’re not even on shelves yet, suggesting success for the theme.

Pre-orders for all seven LEGO One Piece sets – due to be released on August 1 worldwide – opened last week, and it hasn’t taken long for the pre-orders to sell out on two specific sets.

75639 The Going Merry Pirate Ship and 75640 The Baratie Floating Restaurant are no longer available to pre-order in the US, but they were after the theme’s reveal last week. This likely means that the allotted number of each set for the pre-order phase has been sold, while pre-orders for the five smaller models remain available.

It’s not often that LEGO sets sell out when they go up for pre-order, and it’s worth noting that pre-orders for all seven LEGO One Piece sets are available in other regions, including the UK and Europe. The fact that these two sets, which are the most expensive in the theme, have sold out in the pre-order phase suggests that LEGO One Piece is off to a strong start, at least in the US.

We don’t know how much stock of each set was available, but this is far from a common occurrence with recent LEGO sets in any region, and it happening twice within one theme is especially notable.

It’s not hard to see why 75639 The Going Merry Pirate Ship has been popular, considering that it’s one of the most iconic ships in the franchise and comes with the full crew in a single set, but it’s still an expensive LEGO set to sell out at this stage at £119.99 / $139.99 / €129.99.

75640 The Baratie Floating Restaurant is even more expensive at £269.99 / $329.99 / €299.99, but it includes the full crew as well as many exclusive minifigures.

None of the less expensive LEGO One Piece sets have sold out at the time of writing, and they’re available to pre-order now worldwide. It might be wise to pre-order them while you can, as there’s still plenty of time for the rest of the pre-orders to sell out until August 1.

LEGO has been a part of my life ever since I was young. It all started when my brother passed down 7657 AT-ST to me. It’s guided me through my early years, through school and eventually through my degree in journalism. I still have all my collection proudly on display, including my many NINJAGO sets, my favourite of all the LEGO Group’s themes. Outside of Brick Fanatics I am an avid gamer and enjoy a good game of Dungeons & Dragons.
