LEGO Speed Champions are arriving early for some lucky shoppers

Third-party retailers are known for occasionally stocking LEGO sets ahead of release and it’s Speed Champions that appear to be racing to sets first this month.

March is set to be a good month for LEGO Speed Champions fans, with four new sets (bringing five fresh cars) and a polybag on their way in less than two weeks. While these sets won’t officially launch until March 1, some lucky shoppers have already got their hands on some of the sets by scouring the LEGO shelves of third-party retailers.

Some stores don’t stick to the release dates laid out by the LEGO Group, meaning it’s possible to pick up stock of brand-new sets early. In this case, Walmart has been blessing some American LEGO builders with early access to LEGO Speed Champions, with multiple reports of finding the new wave shared on reddit.

These first builders of the new LEGO Speed Champions sets appear to be happy with the newest arrivals. reddit user Soupkid81 noted the increasing amount of detail in the theme, writing: “I find every wave the cars get more detailed, and with that they are taking me longer to build which I enjoy. I think I am a quick LEGO builder and these are taking me about an hour and a bit each to build. Plenty of stickers but using the orange tool I’m having no issues lining every sticker up well.”

Of course, it is luck of the draw as to whether you’ll actually find sets ahead of time, and you likely won’t find them online even if you are shopping with third-party retailers. For UK shoppers who don’t have access to Walmart, your smartest choice for getting your hands on LEGO Speed Champions is shopping with Zavvi, where you can save 5% on your pre-orders of 76920 Ford Mustang Dark Horse and 76921 Audi S1 e-tron quattro with code PREORDER5.

Otherwise, it’s always wise to keep your eyes peeled when shopping in physical stores. Rest assured, however, there’s not long to wait even for the official release of the LEGO Speed Champions wave, coming on March 1. Here’s a reminder of what’s in store.
