LEGO Speed Champions’ rumoured 2025 polybag hints at potential third wave

The car rumoured for this year’s LEGO Speed Champions polybag suggests an unknown third wave of sets could be on the cards – at least if history is any indication.

A single wave of Formula 1-focused LEGO Speed Champions sets is confirmed for 2025 so far, with a second regular wave of cars rumoured to follow in the summer. Nowhere in that mix are we currently said to be getting a Ferrari 499P – but that’s apparently the basis for this year’s five-wide LEGO Speed Champions polybag.

Instagram user fateful_04 reports that 30709 Ferrari 499P will be available from March 1, bringing the hypercar to the Speed Champions theme for the first time. As things currently stand, that bucks the trend for these polybags, which for the past few years have adapted cars from the eight-wide line – such as 2024's 30683 McLaren Formula 1 Car, 2023's 30657 McLaren Solus GT and so on.

There’s always the possibility that the LEGO Group is preparing to break that pattern, but the more interesting prospect is that we are getting an eight-wide Ferrari 499P in 2025 – it just hasn’t been rumoured yet. And if that is the case, it could potentially be part of a third wave of LEGO Speed Champions sets coming later this year.

Three LEGO Speed Champions waves in one calendar year is unusual but not unheard of, and in fact we did get a trio of releases in 2024, spread across March, June and August. The F1 sets are coming in March 2025, while the five rumoured to follow are currently slated for ‘summer’ – so they could easily drop in June, with a third wave of sets featuring the Ferrari 499P following in August.

That’s a hypothetical scenario at this stage in the absence of concrete rumours, but history tells us these polybags correspond with eight-wide cars, so… you do the maths. Of course, this also all hinges on rumours of a Ferrari 499P polybag proving true, and for now we also need to take those with a grain of salt.
