LEGO Star Wars 75159 Death Star could be retiring in 2020

The LEGO Group may be calling time on the Ultimate Collector Series Star Wars set 75159 Death Star before the end of 2020.

Rumours of the massive model’s imminent retirement have been doing the rounds since 2019. That original list pegged a December 2020 retirement date for 75159 Death Star, and it looks like that hasn’t changed. According to a Brick Fanatics source, the 2016 UCS set will indeed be gone before 2021.

That means the next few weeks could well be your last chance to pick up the enormous Star Wars playset. 75159 is an updated version of 10188 Death Star, with slightly modified rooms, more detailed minifigures, and a much higher price tag.

Seeing it disappear from shelves will be a real turning point for the LEGO Star Wars theme. Bar the few months between 10188’s retirement and the launch of 75159, we’ve been able to buy some version of the Death Star since 2008.

Given its iconic nature, it wouldn’t be unreasonable to expect another iteration at some point down the line. If you’re itching for a LEGO rendition of the Empire’s ultimate weapon, though, you’re better off acting sooner rather than later.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
