LEGO Star Wars droid is a shoo-in for The Mandalorian & Grogu sets

The latest reveal for The Mandalorian & Grogu movie has revealed an effective opportunity for the inevitable LEGO Star Wars sets.

As part of a mix of Disney theme park news at SXSW this weekend, the Star Wars-centric update on the Disney Parks blog has a small but noteworthy reveal for The Mandalorian & Grogu. With the movie’s release being nearly one year away, it has been revealed that the BDX droids (inspired by the BD series of droids seen in The Mandalorian and the Star Wars Jedi games) will feature in the film after being tested in person at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.

These real droids have a similar design to the likes of BD-1, but unlike other BD droids, they have been adapted to exist and function in real life. With their upcoming movie debut in The Mandalorian & Grogu, the LEGO Group has a clear and perfect opportunity ahead of them.

Though no LEGO Star Wars sets have been confirmed for The Mandalorian & Grogu, their inevitable models can bring back a recent element and offer LEGO fans another chance at picking it up. Across the retired 75335 BD-1 and the current 75325 The Mandalorian’s N-1 Starfighter, this BD piece would be great for the BDX droids.

The piece remains one of the rarest droid elements in the theme, but should the LEGO Group fit it into one of the likely The Mandalorian & Grogu models, it would present fans with another opportunity to collect the element. Given that the piece is still in circulation as part of 75325 The Mandalorian’s N-1 Starfighter – currently due to retire in July 2026 – it wouldn’t be hard for the LEGO Group to keep producing it either.

With no sign of a public release for a trailer for The Mandalorian & Grogu, announcements such as this are all we have to go on ahead of the highly anticipated Star Wars movie. It’s currently scheduled to be released on May 22, 2026.

LEGO has been a part of my life ever since I was young. It all started when my brother passed down 7657 AT-ST to me. It’s guided me through my early years, through school and eventually through my degree in journalism. I still have all my collection proudly on display, including my many NINJAGO sets, my favourite of all the LEGO Group’s themes. Outside of Brick Fanatics I am an avid gamer and enjoy a good game of Dungeons & Dragons.
