LEGO catalogue suggests new Star Wars set almost had a much higher price tag

The official LEGO catalogue for the second half of 2023 suggests this summer’s new Star Wars battle pack once had a very different price tag.

75359 332nd Ahsoka’s Clone Trooper Battle Pack joins the LEGO Star Wars line-up on August 1, alongside sets based on The Mandalorian, The Clone Wars and the original trilogy. With 108 pieces and four minifigures in the box, it’s the standard battle pack formula: only now priced at £18.99 in the UK, $19.99 in the US and €20.99 in Europe.

That’s an uplift of £1 / €1 on 75345 501st Clone Troopers Battle Pack, which arrived on shelves in January (the US price is consistent), and still a significant jump from where we were with these sets as recently as 2020. (75267 Mandalorian Battle Pack retailed for just £12.99 / $14.99 / €14.99.) But it could seemingly have been so much worse.

The LEGO catalogue for the second half of 2023 is now available to view online in select territories, including Germany, where 75359 332nd Ahsoka’s Clone Trooper Battle Pack is pictured with a price tag of €26.99. That’s an incredible sum of money for a LEGO set of that size even in 2023, and we’re using the term incredible here very much in the pejorative sense.

The good news, of course, is that the final price for 75359 332nd Ahsoka’s Clone Trooper Battle Pack is nowhere near that number. But could the LEGO Group really have initially considered launching the diminutive LEGO Star Wars set with such an extreme price hike? Or is this just an unfortunate misprint that the company has failed to catch before distributing the catalogue?

It’s impossible to say for sure, but consider that 75359 332nd Ahsoka’s Clone Trooper Battle Pack was long rumoured to retail for $26.99 in the US. That price must have come from somewhere, and it probably wasn’t this catalogue (the US version has yet to be uploaded to LEGO.com).

This isn’t the only controversy that has plagued the Clone Wars Season 7 set since its initial reveal. The LEGO Star Wars community reacted poorly to the first images of the included Clone Trooper minifigures for the thicker black lines on their helmets, which ultimately turned out to be rendering issues not present on the final product. (Cue a collective sigh of relief.)

So the minifigures were almost weird, and the price was almost much higher. That’s two potential bullets dodged for 75359 332nd Ahsoka’s Clone Trooper Battle Pack – and hopefully the last. The LEGO Star Wars set launches August 1, and includes Captain Vaughn and three 332nd Company Clone Troopers.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
