LEGO Stores reopening in England and Wales today

LEGO Stores in England and Wales have now reopened as restrictions on non-essential retail are rolled back across the UK.

Today therefore marks the first time any of us will have been able to step foot in a LEGO Store since the current lockdown began in early January. If you’re planning to head to your local store today (or even later this week), all the usual restrictions from the past year will apply, including mandatory face coverings and social distancing.

It’s great timing, too, as the LEGO Group’s latest double VIP points promo has kicked off today. That’s surely not a coincidence, as the company will be attempting to regain footfall to its physical stores in the wake of what will hopefully be the worst of the pandemic.

With any luck, you might also find a few extra freebies in store that are no longer available online, including gifts-with-purchase from January right through to March (if LEGO Stores continued to receive them, that is). That means you could still score the likes of 40450 Amelia Earhart Tribute and 40449 Easter Bunny’s Carrot House, but best to phone ahead if it’s going to make or break your trip.

Scotland’s stores in Glasgow and Edinburgh are still closed for the time being, but are expected to open on April 26, just in time for a glut of new sets (but a little too late for the current double VIP points promo, which ends on April 20).

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
