LEGO Stores jet off into space with free LEGO and huge displays

With 2024 being the year of LEGO space, LEGO Stores in the UK and Europe are getting into the spirit of things with displays and free LEGO, led by Leicester Square.

LEGO Store Leicester Square has decked out its upper floor with various space-themed displays, from oversized brick-built space tech to spaceship-shaped displays for the variety of LEGO space sets that have come out across various themes in the first few months of 2024. There’s even a brick-built astronaut, along with a multi-eyed alien friend, to brighten up the store.

You can get a taste of the latest enormous display to take over the LEGO Store in Leicester Square, thanks to robinhullbuilds on Instagram. Another Instagram user reported that there’s a similar display to be found in Manchester, so it’s well worth heading down to a LEGO Store near you to see if your local retail location has had the same treatment.

However, there’s even more reason to go to a LEGO store near you, even if it doesn’t have the same kind of display as those pictured above. LEGO Stores in the UK and selected European locations are giving away a free LEGO UFO to celebrate the space-themed sets for 2024.

The mini-build depicts a classic alien spaceship hovering over the ground, with blue lightning bolts to give a sense of beaming up. The transparent dome on the top reveals a yellow element within, perhaps meant to resemble a control deck or some kind of power hub – or even an alien.

In the UK, you can build a UFO for yourself and take it home with you between 10am and midday on May 18 and between midday and 2pm on May 19. Dates and times may differ for European locations, so it’s best to check your local store for details of if and when the Make & Take event will be taking place. If you do plan on heading down, LEGO sets will be given out on a first-come, first-served basis, so make sure to get there early to avoid disappointment.

I write about all the very best fandoms – and that means LEGO, of course. Spending so much time looking at and talking about LEGO sets is dangerous for my bank balance, but the LEGO shelves are thriving. You win some, you lose some.

Happy for you to use my pictures. But, I would have preferred that you asked to do so beforehand!
