LEGO Super Mario Donkey Kong fulfils a nine-year-long dream

One of the new LEGO Super Mario Donkey Kong sets can help Mario fulfil a nine-year-long dream as one of a few references in the builds.

As spotted by DK Vine on Twitter, Mario has been wanting to ride Rambi at least since Super Smash Bros. on Nintendo 3DS in 2014.

Thanks to 71420 Rambi the Rhino, Mario can finally achieve this dream in LEGO form as there is space for the interactive figure on Rambi’s back with a scannable toy tag to boot.

The account also recognised the guitar in 71421 Dixie Kong’s Jungle Jam as a reference to Donkey Kong Country 2, adding to our report of the Easter egg to a classic controller in 71424 Donkey Kong’s Tree House.

References to the wider franchise in LEGO Super Mario sets are nothing new but considering the popularity of Donkey Kong’s games, extra attention seems to have been given to these upcoming models.

The LEGO Super Mario Donkey Kong sets launch on August 1, 2023, with four in the range. However, 71424 Donkey Kong’s Tree House is up for pre-order now in case you want to guarantee a copy of the model upon release.

LEGO has been a part of my life ever since I was young. It all started when my brother passed down 7657 AT-ST to me. It’s guided me through my early years, through school and eventually through my degree in journalism. I still have all my collection proudly on display, including my many NINJAGO sets, my favourite of all the LEGO Group’s themes. Outside of Brick Fanatics I am an avid gamer and enjoy a good game of Dungeons & Dragons.
