LEGO Super Mario summer wave brings us Wario, Captain Toad and more Mario Kart

LEGO Super Mario expands on the brick-built Mario Kart range, as well as introducing some characters to us for the very first time.

Thanks to images from JB Spielwaren, we now have the first images of the LEGO Super Mario wave, as well as confirmed European prices and piece counts. We’d expect LEGO listings to appear soon, confirming UK prices and possibly bringing more images too.

For now, here’s everything we know about the LEGO Super Mario wave, due for release on August 1, 2025.

72038 Wario & King Boo

Price: $49.99 / €49.99 Pieces: 512 Release date: August 1, 2025

Wario appears in LEGO Super Mario for the first time, coming in a new Mario Kart set, 72038 Wario & King Boo. He’s in his signature pink Wario car, battling against King Boo, topped off with a neat crown on top of his blocky body.

72039 Bowser’s Castle

Price: $99.99 / €99.99 Pieces: 1,068 Release date: August 1, 2025

72039 Bowser’s Castle is one of the larger sets of the wave, with more than 1,000 pieces. It features Bowser and Yoshi in cars (not the Mario figure that’s shown in some of the lifestyle images) and features various play features, including a Thwomp and the usual flames that Bowser loves to decorate his castle with.

72040 Captain Toad’s Camp

Price: $14.99 / €14.99 Pieces: 159 Release date: August 1, 2025

Captain Toad is another newcomer to LEGO Super Mario, recognisable thanks to his head lamp. 72040 Captain Toad’s Camp is made up of just 159 pieces, but that’s enough to recreate a tent and some fun play features from the look of the back of the box.

72041 Party at Toad’s House

Price: $29.99 / €29.99 Pieces: 276 Release date: August 1, 2025

Two Toads are having a party in 72041 Party at Toad’s House, complete with some balloons, a record player, and a fitting toadstool-shaped building. The cosy atmosphere is rounded off with a neat smoke element coming out of the chimney.

72042 Prince Florian & Castle Bowser

Price: $99.99 / €99.99 Pieces: 1,251 Release date: August 1, 2025

72042 Prince Florian & Castle Bowser is the largest set in the wave, with 1,251 pieces and is a real blend of play and display. The brick-built Bowser face can throw weapons at the interactive figures, as well as separate out into what appear to be a floating vehicle of some kind.

76043 Interactive LEGO Mario & Standard Kart

Price: $49.99 / €49.99 Pieces: 278 Release date: August 1, 2025

76043 Interactive LEGO Mario & Standard Kart is made up of 279 pieces, featuring a ton of accessories for Standard Kart Mario. That makes this an excellent starting point for anyone building out a Mario Kart display, or wanting to start experimenting with the play features of the MK range.

I write about all the very best fandoms – and that means LEGO, of course. Spending so much time looking at and talking about LEGO sets is dangerous for my bank balance, but the LEGO shelves are thriving. You win some, you lose some.
