LEGO Thomas the Tank Engine rolls one step closer to reality
The latest LEGO Ideas project to surpass 10,000 votes heads to the island of Sodor to bring LEGO Thomas the Tank Engine to life for older builders.
LilyMakesThings’ proposed Thomas the Tank Engine LEGO set includes the iconic blue locomotive and a couple of carriages, and at the time of submission – March 2024 – was timed neatly for the 40th anniversary of the TV show. We’re a little way past that now, however, and too far off the 90th anniversary of the character in general (which is in 2032) for either of those hooks to really sway the LEGO Ideas review board.
The project’s creator will therefore be hoping the draw of Thomas the Tank Engine is enough alone to justify an official LEGO set targeted at older fans (compared to previous DUPLO sets) – but it wasn’t a few years ago, when the LEGO Group rejected a similar project from KaijuBuilds in the second 2022 review. We’ll find out either way when the results of the first 2026 review are announced, which will likely be towards the back end of this year.
For now, Thomas the Tank Engine becomes the 15th LEGO Ideas project in the first 2026 review. Check them all out so far in the table below.
