LEGOLAND Windsor lowers LEGO flags to half-mast in honour of the Queen

LEGOLAND Windsor has lowered its miniature flags to half-mast in its LEGO versions of both Buckingham Palace and Windsor Castle.

TikTok user aaminatz shared a video of their visit to the park, saying it made them feel ’emotional’ to see the changes made to the models.

In a move paying respect to the late monarch after her death on September 8, the models of both royal residences were added to, with flowers laid as tributes and the notice of her death affixed to Buckingham Palace’s gates.

LEGO figures were also placed around the outskirts of the palace, to reflect the real-life visitors flocking to the palaces to pay their respects. Some visitors even left unique LEGO tributes to the Queen in front of the gates.

LEGOLAND’s tribute to our late Queen Elizabeth II is making me a little emotional,” wrote Aamina Zafar-Tariq in the caption. “Complete with the carpet of flowers, notice of her death on palace gates and flags flying at half mast over Windsor Castle & Buckingham Palace”.

LEGOLAND Windsor often played neighbour to the Queen, being less than a 10-minute drive away from Windsor Castle, one of her favourite royal residences. Back in 2003, the Queen even visited the miniature version of her palace at LEGOLAND Windsor, as part of the celebrations for her husband Prince Philip’s 82nd birthday.

The LEGO theme park was closed to the public the day after the death of Queen Elizabeth II. It has also since been confirmed that it will also be closed on the day of the funeral, September 19.

“We are extremely saddened to hear of the passing of HM Queen Elizabeth II,” wrote the park on Twitter. “Our thoughts are with all the Royal Family at this deeply sad time.”

I write about all the very best fandoms – and that means LEGO, of course. Spending so much time looking at and talking about LEGO sets is dangerous for my bank balance, but the LEGO shelves are thriving. You win some, you lose some.
