LEGO’s choice of Jurassic Park scene is a surprising one

For a wave of sets quite clearly aimed at children, the LEGO Group’s choice of scene for one of the Jurassic Park sets is a surprising one.

As a whole, the Jurassic Park franchise is a family affair. However, there is one scene that has some particularly gruesome violence that’s certainly seared into some fans’ brains. The main antagonist of the Jurassic Park movie is Dennis Nedry. His comeuppance is delivered by a dilophosaurus that first spits a tar-like venom into his face, before trapping him inside a Jeep and mauling him to death.

It’s fairly gruesome, with plenty of writhing and screaming in pain – which doesn’t seem like the kind of scene you’d want children to be acting out. Nonetheless, it’s the very scene that the LEGO Group has recreated in 76958 Dilophosaurus Ambush, complete with splatters of venom across Nedry’s minifigure face.

Considering that the LEGO Group is careful about inclusion of weapons in its sets, it’s certainly a surprising choice. Still, if there’s any character who deserved such an end, it’s probably Dennis Nedry for trying to sell out the dinosaurs for money.
