LEGO Friends is far from just a kids’ theme – and more people are realising it

LEGO fans of all ages are waking up to the versatility and colour of the LEGO Friends theme, thanks to a few recent reveals.

Recently-revealed LEGO Friends sets have opened more people’s eyes to the versatility of the theme. While it’s certainly marketed towards children and geared for play, with the larger minidolls designed to fit more easily in small hands and the bright colours appealing to younger audiences, it’s far from the theme’s only potential market.

In particular, the vibrant multi-floored 41748 Heartlake City Community Centre and the glass-domed 41757 Botanical Garden that just made it onto LEGO.com are catching people’s attention the most. Here are just a few of the reactions on Twitter.

Indeed, over on Reddit, the discussion is already rife about how you could double up on the £74.99 greenhouse set to close it off, as the rear is left open in the original design. 41757 Botanical Garden is one of the biggest and most detailed greenhouse models that the LEGO Group has created to date and it’s certainly one of the prettiest. With bright flowers, plentiful butterflies, and what looks like a recoloured element to make the dome itself.

In 41748 Heartlake City Community Centre, there’s enough colour and detail to set any imagination, young or old, spinning. Every floor comes in a different colour and it would be a simple matter to use the vibrant bricks for your own creations if you wanted. Even sticking to the original design, the floors appear to be modular, so you can choose your own layout regardless.

Ultimately, the attention to detail on the buildings themselves opens up the LEGO Friends to a wider audience – and it’s well worth looking at past sets from the theme for possibly interesting sets as well. The retro diner elements from 41728 Heartlake Downtown Diner, the ramps and slides from 41751 Skate Park, and the various recoloured flowers and leaves from 41732 Downtown Flower and Design Stores are just a few features to note.
