Make a modular out of LEGO 80113 Family Reunion Celebration

One of this year's LEGO Chinese Traditional Festivals sets could be your latest modular with a few changes, but retaining the detailed design.

The next two huge LEGO Chinese Traditional Festivals models include an intricate dragon – 80112 Auspicious Dragon – and a feature-filled restaurant with a returning family of minifigures. While its detail and interior are appealing beyond those familiar with the traditions it is based on, it's unfortunately not a modular building despite there being precedent in the range.

The latter is 80113 Family Reunion Celebration and ahead of its launch on January 1, 2024, a method to transform the model into something compatible with the Modular Buildings Collection has been devised.

Cheesey Studios has found that with a 16 by 32-stud baseplate and some extra elements, it's possible to transform 80113 Family Reunion Celebration into a thinner corner modular, which the collection has never seen officially.

Most of the interior is kept and the exterior is still recognisable, even down to the intricate sign build. There's no room for the kitchen or the upstairs toilet, but it's a worthwhile sacrifice to have it fit into your modular street.

The top floor of the model is now home to the karaoke machine and your minifigures may need to keep it down to avoid disturbing citizens in neighbouring buildings.

Windows have been added to the back of the building to offer some detail when part of the set is open next to other modular buildings, or even wholly open next to 80107 Spring Lantern Festival. A door provides a rear entrance to the restaurant too.

No instructions have been provided for this transformation but you may be able to recreate the design when 80113 Family Reunion Celebration launches on January 1 by using the video and it seems likely that one or more other methods to change the set into a modular building will arrive soon after release.

This modification should work especially well next to 80107 Spring Lantern Festival and 2023 is a great time to start your modular street thanks in no small part to the recent release of 10326 Natural History Museum.
