Expect a certain minifigure to be missing in new LEGO Indiana Jones sets

With the fifth Indiana Jones film nearing release, one character from its predecessors doesn’t seem to be returning.

Indiana Jones fans had their prayers answered this year, thanks to the arrival of a trailer for the next Indiana Jones flick. Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny reunites us with Harrison Ford in his iconic, whip-cracking persona. Set in 1969, it sees Indy swing back into action against a new enemy. He’s joined this time by his goddaughter Helena (played by Phoebe Waller-Bridge) although some familiar faces like Sallah will also be popping up in the movie.

However, it seems that Indy’s actual child – Mutt Williams, originally played by Shia LeBeouf – will be missing in action. EW reports that the character will not be making an appearance in The Dial of Destiny, although if you’re a fan of the character we will apparently be told what happened to him as the film unfolds.

That has ramifications for the content of any LEGO Indiana Jones sets we get going forward. Kingdom of the Crystal Skull inspired a variety of LEGO Indiana Jones sets back in 2008, with a mix of scenes from across all four movies. While there have been suggestions of new LEGO Indy sets, nothing has been confirmed by the LEGO Group – and in any case, our sources suggest that Kingdom of the Crystal Skull won’t be represented at all in LEGO form going forward.

As such, if you’re hoping to get a modern-day LEGO Mutt, it seems likely that you’re out of luck. That said, the character has appeared in four different LEGO Indiana Jones sets – so tracking him down on the secondary market should be relatively straightforward.

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny releases in cinemas on June 30, 2023. You can check out our roundup of LEGO Indiana Jones 2023 rumours before it drops, or read our guide to the original LEGO Indiana Jones theme for a quick history lesson.
