New LEGO Discovery Centre to open in Springfield – but not for Homer
Springfield is about to get a LEGO Discovery Centre – the real-life town, not the animated one.
A 32,000 square-foot LEGO Discovery Center is set to open in Springfield Town Center in mid-2023, the LEGO Group announced on November 17. Like the other 27 centres around the globe, the new location will offer a number of brick-themed activities and experiences for LEGO fans of all ages to enjoy.
Specifically, FFX Now reports that various workshops will be held at the Discovery Centre, such as Space Mission, where participants build a space rocket out of LEGO bricks to be digitally scanned, then flown through a LEGO space solar system.
Younger visitors can engage with a LEGO DUPLO area, while other features of the centre will include a 4D cinema, a Build-a-Minifigure zone, and Miniland made from more than 1.5 million bricks.
If you’re in the local area, the LEGO Group is also seeking Mini Model Builders (aka children who can test out the discovery centre during early access). Kids aged between four and 12 can enter online by creating their own original LEGO build.
If you’re too old to be a Mini Model Builder, but still want to get involved, there are also a number of open roles for people to come and work at the Discovery Centre.
“Our partnership with the LEGO Group continues to deliver fantastic opportunities for families and we are thrilled to be celebrating the next step in bringing our next generation LEGO Discovery Center to Washington, D.C.,” Merlin Entertainments Chief Strategy Officer Justin Platt wrote in a statement. “By working closely with the LEGO Group’s team to design and build this next generation of the LEGO Discovery Centers, we continue to strengthen the attraction offering for future guests, delivering the ultimate LEGO indoor activity experience to even more families for them to enjoy together.”
