What’s next for LEGO Disney, as foretold by this 2024 set

The minifigures in a 2024 LEGO Disney set are slowly getting their own much larger sets – and dropping clues for what’s still to come.

When LEGO Disney 21352 Magic of Disney came out in October of last year, it had gone through a few changes from the original project from LEGO Ideas fan designer 2A2A. That included a switch-up in the minifigure line-up, detailed in the table below.

Original featuresFinal characters
Belle and the magic rose from Beauty and the BeastBelle and the magic rose from Beauty and the Beast
Ariel, Flounder and Sebastian, from the Little MermaidFlounder and Sebastian from the Little Mermaid
Pride rock from the Lion KingSimba on Pride rock from the Lion King
Sultan’s palace and the flying Carpet, from AladdinBruno and the Casa Madrigal in Encanto where Aladdin was
Pumpkin coach from CinderellaNo Cinderella appearances
Stitch riding the wave, from Lilo and StitchLilo riding the wave instead
Elsa from Frozen working the ice magicFantasia brooms in Elsa’s place
Pinocchio and the wooden raftPinocchio’s Geppetto in his workshop, without the talking puppet

While it’s pretty common for fan-designed LEGO sets to go through some sort of changes, the further out we get from the release of 21352 Magic of Disney, the more intentional those changes appear to be. Each minifigure featured in the LEGO Disney model is gradually getting its own, much larger set – as we originally speculated last year.

Belle is obviously tied to the recently revealed 43263 Beauty and the Beast Castle, Lilo now has her own set in the form of 43268 Lilo and Stitch Beach House, and Simba was rendered in his own sprawling build with 43247 Young Simba the Lion King. We had arguably already got our large-scale build for Flounder and Sebastian with the now-retired 43255 The Little Mermaid Royal Clamshell.

That just leaves Bruno and Pinocchio waiting for a detailed build. We’ve had several Madrigal houses over the years but, if we’re following the same patterns as the other minifigures and sets, we’d be after a minifigure-scale model with a level of detail to appeal to the adult market as well as younger builders. Could a more in-depth set focused on Bruno and the world of Encanto?

As for Pinocchio, there’s no upcoming film to tie in with – but that doesn’t mean there couldn’t be a LEGO set. While there’s no current rumours for a build based on the puppet-turned-real-boy, there’s growing weight attached to this theory as more and more sets are revealed. There’s less of a reason to release a Pinnochio-themed set, with no movie release in the cards – but never say never.

I write about all the very best fandoms – and that means LEGO, of course. Spending so much time looking at and talking about LEGO sets is dangerous for my bank balance, but the LEGO shelves are thriving. You win some, you lose some.

Wouldn’t mind a Pinocchio set, always loved the puppet turned real boy.
