‘Pitiful, hard pass, and simplistic’: LEGO fans have choice words to say about MARVEL Logo

Almost one week on from its reveal, the LEGO community has had a lot to say about LEGO Marvel 76313 MARVEL Logo.

Following an early reveal from a third-party retailer, the LEGO community has had almost a week to react to and digest 76313 MARVEL Logo. The 931-piece set features a red-and-white version of the logo, with five minifigures of (most of) the original Avengers: Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, Black Widow, and the Hulk.

It does pretty much what it says on the tin – but with a pretty hefty price tag attached. Read on for some of the choice opinions shared throughout the LEGO community since the LEGO Marvel set’s reveal.

Who asked for this?

The LEGO Group is clearly trying to do something different with this brick-built logo – but suffice to say it’s not quite landing among fans.

“Who is buying this stuff?” asked KasperBuyens on reddit. “Like who is this for?” With over 200 upvotes, that’s a sentiment clearly echoed by many. With little interactivity for play, a high price for a simple display model, and not enough quality minifigures to appeal to collectors, it does seem to be a fair question.

Some people from the LEGO community have suggestions about who might want to buy 76313 MARVEL Logo – if not entirely serious ones. blueberrypizza wrote: “Someone described these new Marvel sets as ‘things you buy to put in the background of your podcast studio’ and I can’t stop thinking of that when I see sets like these.”

LEGO Marvel’s answer to 76252 Batcave – Shadow Box

“The LEGO Group sold us a black DC box, so now they’re selling us a red Marvel box,” quipped another redditor Glamdring804. Indeed, a lot of the piece count in the LEGO DC set went towards a simple box, much like 76313 MARVEL Logo but, as legalskeptic pointed out in the comments, “the DC box at least had a Batcave inside it.”

Therein lies the issue that many Marvel fans have. The Marvel logo is dynamic and iconic, with scenes from the films playing out within the logo at the start of every MCU movie. It’s begging for tiny scenes to pop out of the logo, rather than just minifigures, arguably even more so than 76252 Batcave – Shadow Box.

The main appeal of 76313 MARVEL Logo isn’t all that appealing

Of course, not all LEGO sets are about the main build. The draw of many LEGO products is the minifigures and 76313 MARVEL Logo could have been an opportunity for fans to get some top-tier minifigures of the OG Avengers all in one place. Emphasis on the ‘could’ there, as there’s actually one Avenger missing, with no Hawkeye included.

Fans also haven’t been impressed with the minifigures that are there, with Black_and_Purple writing on reddit: “No arm prints, only two on here have prints on the legs. That’s really simplistic. Even for LEGO, that’s pitiful.”

Even for those who like it, there’s one big blocker

That’s not to say everyone dislikes the concept of LEGO sets like 76313 MARVEL Logo.

“I remember reading an early description of it being a logo with the heroes crashing out of it and thought that could actually look cool,” commented SpaceCaboose. “This is not what I envisioned at all. I pictured them actually exploding out of the front and sides. Plus at this price? Hard pass.”

The price tag of £89.99 / $99.99 / €99.99 seems to be putting off even those who might be keen on a brick-built Marvel logo. If the resounding feedback about this set is any indication of sales, at least it feels like a discount on the set will likely come not long after its release.

If you don’t want to believe the haters and prefer to see for yourself, 76313 MARVEL Logo is available to pre-order now for £89.99 in the UK, $99.99 in the US, and €99.99 in Europe.

I write about all the very best fandoms – and that means LEGO, of course. Spending so much time looking at and talking about LEGO sets is dangerous for my bank balance, but the LEGO shelves are thriving. You win some, you lose some.

I am a Marvel fan by no means, but the concept is actually kind of cool (even if for only a podcast background ?). What draws my attention most is how accurate the shape of the letters are, that is not easy with Lego. I also want to point out, a few comments were saying they envisioned the characters and letters exploding out, and in Jay’dBrickBlog insta post, he does list pics of it doing so. https://www.instagram.com/p/DDGW9llv9Wq/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==

-I was caught off guard when seeing his post because I had just meticulously looked through all of Lego Shop At Home’s new listings the night before! SOoo many new releases for Jan and Mar!! Some really cool 3-in-1’s coming!
