Possible LEGO GWP connected to recent LEGO Icons set revealed online

A possible LEGO GWP set could be a cheaper way to get your hands on a brick-built version of an iconic car – albeit a smaller one.

Thanks to the official Building Instructions page from the LEGO Group, we’ve spotted an early look at 40650 Land Rover Classic Defender, a replica of the iconic off-road car that reflects the relationships between the LEGO Group and Land Rover, most recently apparent through the release of LEGO Icons 10317 Land Rover Classic Defender 90 at the beginning of April.

While this build is much smaller, it will also likely be a lot cheaper than 10317’s price tag of £209.99 / $239.99 / €239.99. For that, you get a 150-piece build (according to Bouw Steentjes) and an accompanying minifigure. Judging from the size and scale of this set, this could well be an upcoming GWP.

In a bright yellow colour, the miniature 4×4 has what looks like stickered branding for Land Rover on the front grill and not a whole lot of interactivity. Although the wheels probably turn, it doesn’t look like the doors will be able to open, so for your driver to get into the car, you might need to actually build them into the car yourself.

Nonetheless, it’s a neat little take on the well-known car that shouldn’t break the bank. There’s no word yet on what the minimum price or release date will be, other than it will be released in 2023, but we’ll be sure to let you know when we know anything more about 40650 Land Rover Classic Defender.
