The upcoming LEGO Icons 11374 Arcade Pinball Machine includes plenty of clever play features, but no sound… until now that is.
While only a handful of new LEGO sets will be dropping on July 1, one of those models delivers an altogether different building experience. 11374 Arcade Pinball Machine arrives next week as a 2,274-piece LEGO Icons release, one that features a playable Classic Space game complete with flippers, bumpers and even a new astronaut and Spacebaby colour.
While 11374 Arcade Pinball Machine may sound impressive on paper, there’s one element from pinball machines of yesteryear that's missing from the set and that’s any sound. Well, the good news is that one resourceful builder has taken up the challenge of adding even more interactivity to the LEGO Icons model and the results are pretty darn impressive.
Instagram user ramblingbrick decided to experiment with sound design using 11374 Arcade Pinball Machine and placed two LEGO SMART Bricks, SMART Tags and SMART Minifigures inside the set, although it’s worth noting that those elements aren't actually included with the build.
The pieces have in fact been repurposed from a number of existing LEGO Star Wars models, most likely 75423 Luke’s Red Five X-Wing and 75426 Millennium Falcon, with the sounds generated from those interactive elements perfectly suiting 11374 Arcade Pinball Machine’s space rescue mission game.

“Here I am using the lightsaber Tag to signify a strike on the asteroid,” said ramblingbrick, “while I have adapted the spinner to engage with a SMART Brick / X-Wing Tag - the spinner activates/deactivates the bell. There are a couple of minifigures underneath to give voices to the astronaut and Spacebaby.”
More 11374 Arcade Pinball Machine sound design experiments are said to be on way at some point, including ramblingbrick’s thoughts on why LEGO SMART Play functionality wasn’t included in the set.
11374 Arcade Pinball Machine will be released on July 1, with the LEGO Icons set priced at £189.99 / $229.99 / €209.99. You can find out what we thought about the gaming model in our full in-depth review of the build right here.
