LEGO Dragon Ball is practically already a thing at this point

LEGO Dragon Ball has been a long time coming

Rumours of a full LEGO Dragon Ball theme next year aren't so far-fetched when you consider just how often official LEGO projects have referenced the anime.

The latest LEGO rumour claims that we can expect a full Dragon Ball theme on shelves in 2027. The anime property started in 1986 and has gone on to inspire movies, games, merchandise and even an upcoming theme park in Saudi Arabia. It continues strong to this day, appearing just about everywhere in pop culture.

Believe it or not, that even extends to the LEGO Group's various media. While we wait for more information on the new rumour, here's a look at how the LEGO Group has referenced Dragon Ball so far.

Monkie Kid

The vast majority of the LEGO Dragon Ball references come from the animated Monkie Kid series. The wiki has a full list of them, but we'll go over the highlights since there are too many to list. The second episode of Season 6 saw Sandy clutch a cube-shaped orange object with stars, paying tribute to the Dragon Balls from the series of the same name.

The Yamcha pose meme has been referenced countlessly across pop culture, and Monkie Kid's animation team loves using the pose whenever a character crashes into the ground. Thankfully, none of the Monkie Kid characters was dead in this pose.

Also from Monkie Kid, Mei and MK once performed the Fusion Dance, where two Dragon Ball characters can combine into a more powerful being. The same didn't occur between MK and Mei, but it's the effort that counts.

NINJAGO

LEGO NINJAGO has two distinct references to Dragon Ball, one from each series. The original Masters of Spinjitzu show saw the animation drastically change in The Absolute Worst.

The series briefly adopted an anime-like animation style, taking the opportunity to transform Jay into the spitting image of Goku, complete with the spiked hair. Later in that same episode, Jay even performs a Kamehameha-adjacent attack with his elemental lightning.

Dragons Rising also has a reference to Dragon Ball, when Percival and his friends took similar poses to those of the Ginyu Force from Dragon Ball Z.

Batman

The last LEGO Dragon Ball reference worth highlighting in this report comes from the most recent project from the LEGO Group. Bat Mite breaks the fourth wall constantly in LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight. That includes an homage to Dragon Ball in a poster where Bat Mite is depicted going Super Sayan, complete with spiked hair in the form of a LEGO hedge.

Whether the LEGO Dragon Ball theme rumours are true has yet to be confirmed, and should be taken with caution for now. We at least know that the LEGO Group is all too aware of the anime, though.
