Rumoured LEGO Technic sets cover both Earth and Mars

LEGO Technic could be heading to space, if online rumours about the theme’s future in 2023 are to be believed.

According to lego_minecraft_goat on Instagram, the LEGO Technic theme could get five new sets in 2023, ranging from earthly John Deere models to ones based around NASA’s Perseverance Mars Rover.

42157 Skidder John Deere 948L-II is based around a piece of machinery used in logging to pull chopped trees out of a forest, a model that will pair up nicely with previous LEGO Technic sets based on John Deere machines. In addition, two new sportcars are on their way to the theme, 42160 Audi RS Q e-tron and 42161 Lamborghini Hurricane Technic.

Moving away from everyday machinery, LEGO Technic is heading to space with 42158 NASA Perseverance Mars Rover. NASA’s Mars 2020 Perseverance Rover was shot to Mars and tasked with looking for signs of past microbial life, cache rock and soil samples, as well as preparing for future human exploration.

Previous LEGO sets based around NASA and space exploration, such as 10283 NASA Space Shuttle Discovery, proved massively popular. With this set possibly appearing in the Technic theme, we can hope for more interactive and posable options for the Mars Rover than the more display-focused LEGO Icons build.

Of course, we can’t confirm whether these sets are actually on their way until we hear from the LEGO Group officially. For now, here’s a rundown of all the rumoured details associated with them.
