We now have a good sense of what’s to come in 2024, but which themes are deserving of more as we head into a new year?
There are some themes that are sure to get a solid array of sets, such as LEGO Icons, Ideas, Star Wars, and so on. While those areas are staples for the LEGO Group, it’s not possible for every theme to have a great year every year and there are certainly some that deserve some attention after a quiet year – or several.
Read on for seven LEGO themes that we want to see get the spotlight in 2024.
7 – LEGO The Lord of the Rings

2023 saw a return to LEGO The Lord of the Rings, with the release of 10316 The Lord of the Rings: Rivendell and a trio of LEGO BrickHeadz depicting iconic characters. While those are certainly welcome, we’re keen to see some smaller, more accessible sets from Middle-earth.
After all, all four of those sets are technically nestled under LEGO Icons and BrickHeadz, despite there being a Lord of the Rings tab under themes on LEGO.com. Will 2023 be the year we see some mid-range sets of Hobbiton? A posable model of a Great Eagle? We’re spitballing here but if the LEGO Group wants to pick up any of these ideas that we’re putting down…
6 – LEGO Art

LEGO Art is off to a strong start in 2024 with the upcoming release of 31211 Macaw Parrots, pushing the boundaries once again with the frameless brick-built artwork but the theme is still disappointingly low in numbers.
There’s so much potential in the LEGO Art theme, with each new set bringing something new to the table, whether it’s
5 – LEGO Architecture

The range and diversity of LEGO Architecture has been diminishing in recent years, dropping to just 21060 Himeji Castle in 2023. While it’s certainly an aesthetic set, where did the Skylines sub-theme go? There are literally hundreds of eligible cities crying out for a model, as well as plenty of iconic buildings that could do with a brick-built recreation.
With Twilight’s Cullen House becoming a LEGO Ideas set in the future, perhaps the LEGO Group is responding to the appetite for architecturally impressive buildings. If the LEGO Ideas set succeeds, perhaps more intricate LEGO Architecture sets could be in the works. Here’s hoping!
4 – LEGO Indiana Jones

Considering the depth of the Indiana Jones franchise, a trio of modern sets just isn’t enough to sate Indy fans or us. Seeing as Temple of Doom has been officially shelved, hopes for more from the theme might be unrealistic but we’re holding on to that hope for as long as we can.
More specifically, perhaps more adult-focused sets would go down well, pulling on those reliable nostalgia threads. While the interactive elements of the existing LEGO Indiana Jones models are fun, display sets of some iconic Indy scenes could pull in an adult audience that could better serve the theme.
3 – LEGO DC

We can’t stop, won’t stop including LEGO DC on these lists until it gets the treatment it deserves. The cinematic franchise might be floundering at best right now when compared to the MCU, but that’s no reason that comic book characters (or really just anything except yet another black Batman set) don’t deserve some time in the sunshine.
76252 Batcave – Shadow Box was controversial at best in 2023, but we’d wager there’s definitely still appetite for some large-scale LEGO DC sets. Give us a UCS Javelin-7, give us comic-accurate costumes like in LEGO Marvel – give us anything that’s not entirely black.
2 – LEGO Super Mario

With the approaching retirement of the original slate of LEGO Super Mario starter sets, 2024 is the perfect time for a new and improved direction for the theme. Nothing has yet been confirmed but we can’t help looking at the new banana peel and mushroom hat elements and cross our fingers in the hope of minifigures.
After all, if LEGO Animal Crossing can usher in a flurry of unique minifigure elements, why can’t we get our favourite plumber brother duo and their friends?
1 – LEGO Monkie Kid

LEGO Monkie Kid is getting a huge fifth-anniversary set and a connected special GWP with 80054 Megapolis City 5th Anniversary but other than that, the theme is limited to smaller sets and mechs. That leaves a glaring mid-size gap in the theme, leaving it looking a little bare when compared to previous years.
