Six LEGO January 2024 sets worth grabbing on day one

January 1 sees the usual deluge of LEGO sets launching across various themes, but there are definitely some you should be picking up before others.

Knowing what to buy on January 1 often comes down to personal preference but if you’re feeling overwhelmed by choice, we’ve picked out a few of the bunch that are well worth making a day-one purchase. Ranging from sets that are unlikely to appear elsewhere for a good few months to ones that are surprisingly good value for money, scroll down for our six picks for when January 1 rolls around.

LEGO Art 31211 Macaw Parrots

Kicking us off with a colourful design, LEGO Art 31211 Macaw Parrots is an attractive RRP when you consider you’ve essentially got two wall-hanging sets in one. At £44.99 / $59.99 / €49.99, that’s just over £20 per brightly coloured parrot, perfect to bring some retro charm to your wall. Displayed together or apart, they’re sure to grab the attention of guests in your home in their fetching shades of yellow and pink, tied together with turquoise accents on both.

LEGO Ideas 21345 Polaroid OneStep SX-70 Camera

LEGO Ideas sets tend to be exclusive to the LEGO Group for the first few months of their lifetimes, so if you want 21345 Polaroid OneStep SX-70 Camera in your collection soon, buying directly from LEGO.com or a LEGO store is the way to go about it. At £69.99 / $79.99 / €79.99, it’s on the lower end of the scale for the LEGO Ideas theme, complete with authentic working features just like its real-life counterpart.

LEGO Jurassic World 76964 Dinosaur Fossils: T. rex Skull

Marking a new direction for the LEGO Jurassic World theme, 76964 Dinosaur Fossils: T. rex Skull is a display-focused build in a realm of LEGO usually dominated by playsets. In our detailed review, we’ve already touched on how it delivers a lot of bang for its buck, producing a substantial and engaging build that looks great on a shelf. You’d be hard-pressed to find a better set to pick up on January 1, especially at that price point of £34.99 / $39.99 / €39.99.

LEGO Star Wars 75372 Clone Trooper & Battle Droid Battle Pack

LEGO Star Wars battle packs rarely see substantial discounts and, while 75372 Clone Trooper & Battle Droid Battle Pack is more expensive than its predecessors, it delivers a lot more for the higher price tag. The tri-droid main build is substantial enough to almost be a full set, rather than a battle pack, while each side has enough characters to really deliver on depicting a battle scene. Any LEGO Star Wars fan should make sure to get their own copy – and definitely if you’re a Clone Wars era fan.

LEGO 40713 Japan Postcard

LEGO Store exclusives are, as the name would suggest, exclusive and therefore rarely have discounts. The latest entry to the Postcard series is 40713 Japan Postcard and it’s a delightful homage to Japan. From the cherry blossom-studded plaque to the bright blue of the sky paired with Mount Fuji, the compact set is a fun collection of some of the most well-known features of the country, all brought together in an affordable build.

LEGO Marvel 76285 Spider-Man’s Mask

Collecting LEGO Marvel busts and display-focused models like 76223 Nano Gauntlet is a ‘gotta catch ’em all’ situation for many LEGO fans and none less so than 76285 Spider-Man’s Mask. The angle eyes and the printed webbing create an authentic replica of the web-slinging hero’s face, making it an impressive addition to the sub-theme – and one well worth picking up on January 1 trip to the LEGO store.
