Spot the difference between two LEGO Harry Potter Hedwigs

The centrepiece of LEGO Harry Potter 76391 Hogwarts Icons Collectors’ Edition is an updated brick-built Hedwig – but what are the actual differences between the two models?

We’ve already got an existing version of Hedwig in 75979 Hedwig, but there are several differences, some easier to spot than others. The most obvious change is, of course, the size. While we don’t have detailed dimensions for the actual bird model in 76391 Hogwarts Icons Collectors’ Edition, however the entire build measures 17.5 in. (44 cm) high, 19.5 in. (50 cm) wide and 13 in. (33 cm) deep.

We can assume that the 50cm width is roughly the size of Hedwig’s wingspan, as it looks to be the widest part of the set. In comparison, 75979 Hedwig’s wingspan is just 35cm, giving a sense of the smaller scale of the first product.

Overall, there’s a lot more detail in the newer build. Hedwig’s head shape is rounder, with more sculpting around the edge of her face and neck. The wings also have seven distinct feather-like parts, in comparison to just three on 75979 Hedwig.

However, one feature that 75959 Hedwig has that the bird of 76391 Hogwarts Icons Collectors’ Edition does not is movement. The older design has a mechanical element to it, where you can turn a lever to have the snowy owl’s wings beat, as if about to take flight.

Finally, we come to the difference in price. Although 76391 Hogwarts Icons Collectors’ Edition is significantly more expensive, you will get more bang for your buck for the higher price tag of £229.99 / $249.99 / €249.99 than the smaller build, which sells for £34.99 / $39.99 / €39.99. In 76391, you don’t just get Hedwig herself, but also a range of other iconic Harry Potter items as well, which you can see in our full gallery here.

Both sets have unique qualities to offer, bringing their own twists to one of the most well-loved creatures from the Wizarding World. 76391 Hogwarts Icons Collectors’ Edition will go on sale from September 2. Keep an eye out for our in-depth review coming soon!
