Star Wars: The Mandalorian, Rocky actor Carl Weathers passes away aged 76

The actor behind Star Wars: The Mandalorian’s Greef Karga, Rocky’s Apollo Creed and more – Carl Weathers – has passed away aged 76.

Deadline has confirmed that actor, director and producer Carl Weather has passed away aged 76. You might have recognised Weathers from his recent work in The Mandalorian as Greef Karga, but he also portrayed Apollo Creed in four Rocky movies as well as over 70 other movies and TV shows.

“We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Carl Weathers,” his family said in a statement.

“He died peacefully in his sleep on Thursday, February 1st, 2024. Carl was an exceptional human being who lived an extraordinary life. Through his contributions to film, television, the arts and sports, he has left an indelible mark and is recognized worldwide and across generations. He was a beloved brother, father, grandfather, partner, and friend.”

As a director, Weathers worked on chapters 12 and 20 of The Mandalorian and has received two minifigures based on his work as Greef Karga in the series. Weathers was born on January 14, 1948, in New Orleans and as well as The Mandalorian and Rocky, has appeared everywhere from Toy Story, Predator, Happy Gillmore, Magnum P.I., Law and Order: Special Victims Unit and even animated series and the Mortal Kombat X game.
