Tesco ranks LEGO Super Mario among its top toys for Christmas 2020

Supermarket giant Tesco has announced its top 10 toys for Christmas 2020, and LEGO Super Mario is on the list.

It’s not the first time the Nintendo icon has hopped into a retailer’s Christmas list. In fact, it’s actually the third: earlier this month, Amazon selected the LEGO Group’s new play theme as one of this year’s hottest new toys. British toy store Hamleys then followed suit last week.

All three stores specifically highlighted 71360 Adventures with Mario Starter Course, which makes sense. After all, it’s the one set you need to make the rest work, because it includes the LEGO Group’s brilliant, interactive Super Mario figure.

Here’s the full list of Tesco’s top 10 toys for Christmas 2020.

Kindi Kids Shiver ‘n’ Shake Rainbow Kate
71360 Adventures with Mario Starter Course
Present Pets
LOL Surprise Clubhouse Play-set
Rainbocorns Sweet Shake Surprise
PAW Patrol Dino Patroller
Fisher-Price Rollin’ Rovee
Monster Jam Grave Digger
Laser Battle Hunters
Pictionary Air

Tesco’s Anne Borrett says there’s been “a resurgence in toys that entertain for longer,” which LEGO Super Mario certainly offers (particularly if you start buying the many expansion packs). Either way, the LEGO Group is clearly aiming to give its new theme a huge push ahead of the holiday shopping season.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
