The 10 most expensive LEGO sets of 2022
2022 has brought plenty more expensive LEGO sets for fans to sweat over – although you are, in many cases, getting plenty of bang for your buck.
A noticeable trend for LEGO sets over the last few years is an increase in prices, with several major releases regularly hitting triple digits. 2022 is no exception, with a variety of different LEGO sets from across multiple themes appearing in this price bracket.
To help refresh your memory of the LEGO Group’s expensive tastes, here’s a list of the 10 most eye-watering LEGO sets the company has offered in 2022:
10 – 21335 Motorised Lighthouse
Price: £259.99 / $299.99 / €299.99 Pieces: 2065 Minifigures: 2 Available: Now
Lighthouses are nothing new in LEGO sets, but this is the first to properly mimic the real thing’s functionality. Through some clever engineering, this set offers a lighthouse light that can rotate 360 degrees. It even introduces a LEGO Fresnel lens – another feature of the real thing – that gives the set an added lick of authenticity.
Fortunately, the mechanism is also surrounded by a nicely decorated coastal scene, and staffed by a lighthouse keeper. If you’re looking to take your LEGO seaside to the next level, this set is the perfect choice.
9 – 76215 Black Panther
Price: £299.99 / $349.99 / €349.99 Pieces: 2961 Minifigures: 0 Available: Now
Hot on the heels of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever comes this tasteful tribute to Chadwick Boseman, who famously brought the character of T’Challa to life on the big screen. The set depicts the Black Panther mask, with detachable gauntlets that can be positioned in the ‘Wakanda Forever’ pose.
Drum-lacquered metallic silver and translucent purple elements offer additional spots of detail, making this one of the most impressive LEGO Black Panther sets to date. However, when compared to similarly priced sets like 76178 Daily Bugle (released in 2021) this may prove a purchase for diehard Black Panther fans only.
8 – 10303 Loop Coaster
Price: £344.99 / $399.99 / €399.99 Pieces: 3756 Minifigures: 11 Available: Now
The LEGO Fairground Collection may well have found its centrepiece in this set. Measuring 92cm high at its tallest point, the coaster offers a pair of loops for minifigures to hurtle around. The set can also accommodate a LEGO motor, allowing its basic functions to be automated.
To accommodate its loops, this rollercoaster introduces some track elements for more extreme track design. As such, any budding LEGO rollercoaster designers may find this LEGO set particularly inspiring.
7 – 10299 Real Madrid – Santiago Bernabéu Stadium
Price: £344.99 / $399.99 / €399.99 Pieces: 5876 Minifigures: 0 Available: Now
The third such football stadium to arrive in LEGO form, 10299 Santiago Bernabéu Stadium offers a finely detailed model of the Spanish sporting venue. In addition to the pitch and stands, the set features real-world sponsors and models the stadium’s distinctive outer structure. It also includes finer details such as trees and a bus.
Ironically, the stadium is something of a window into the past now thanks to the real-life stadium’s renovation. If you’re a fan of the stadium’s earlier appearance, this set could be the perfect choice.
6 – 10305 Lion Knights’ Castle
Price: £349.99 / $399.99 / €399.99 Pieces: 4514 Minifigures: 22 Available: Now
While the glory days of the LEGO Castle theme are long behind us, 10305 Lion Knights’ Castle soundly beats its predecessors in terms of ambition. The set pays tribute to the early days of the LEGO Castle theme, recreating the most colourful Lion Knights – and giving them a grand castle to call home.
Featuring some highly organic geometry and plenty of interior detail, this set is an excellent choice for Castle fans old and new. Several rooms can be found inside the castle including a dining hall, an armoury and a dungeon. Almost two dozen minifigures populate the set as well, with a queen, a full complement of knights and even a wizard to play with. In short, this may prove to be the ultimate LEGO castle – regardless of what the future brings.
5 – 42143 Ferrari Daytona SP3
Price: £389.99 / $449.99 / €449.99 Pieces: 3778 Minifigures: 0 Available: Now
LEGO Technic cars have been grand for some time, but this car is a particularly notable example. Following a long tradition of LEGO Ferrari models, 42143 Ferrari Daytona SP3 uses a mix of Technic and LEGO elements to ensure the most accurate shaping possible. It also preserves several real-life features such as working steering, a sequential gearbox and opening butterfly doors.
While owning a real-life Ferrari Daytona SP3 may prove a tall order, 42143 Ferrari Daytona SP3 is a very respectable alternative.
4 – 76405 Hogwarts Express Collectors’ Edition
Price: £429.99 / $499.99 / €499.99 Pieces: 5129 Minifigures: 20 Available: Now
The Hogwarts Express has received several LEGO versions over the years, but this one is significantly bigger and more detailed than its predecessors. The set depicts the Hogwarts Castle locomotive and a single passenger coach, which contains multiple scenes from the movies. A section of Platform 9 3/4 is also modelled here, along with older versions of the main cast.
While it’s an enticing prospect, that extensive detailing comes at a price; the train is so large it can’t safely run on conventional LEGO tracks. Even with LEGO, some trade-offs are inevitable.
3 – 76210 Hulkbuster
Price: £474.99 / $549.99 / €549.99 Pieces: 4049 Minifigures: 0 Available: Now
Taking inspiration from Avengers: Age of Ultron, 76210 Hulkbuster is a large-scale, fully-featured rendition of Tony Stark’s armour. The set towers above many of its predecessors, and can even accommodate 76206 Iron Man Figure – echoing the in-movie functionality rather effectively.
However, the set has proved polarising; its compatibility with 76206 Iron Man Figure has led to some odd shaping, and the set as a whole can be a little fragile. A fine visual achievement, then, but perhaps another set for the diehard Marvel fan.
2 – 75331 The Razor Crest
Price: £519.99 / $599.99 / €599.99 Pieces: 6187 Minifigures: 3 Available: Now
The original LEGO version of the Razor Crest was an immensely popular LEGO Star Wars set, and its Ultimate Collector Series version is a fitting successor. Faithfully depicting the original ship of Din Djarin, the model uses its high piece count to refine its exterior shaping. Of course, the interior isn’t neglected: it features plenty of passenger seating, a carbon-freezing chamber and – most importantly – storage space for Grogu’s hover pram.
Kuiil, the unnamed Mythrol and a new, extensively-detailed Mandalorian are included in this set, along with Grogu. With a third season of The Mandalorian on its way, this set in an excellent set for fans of the earlier seasons.
1 – 10307 Eiffel Tower
Price: £554.99 / $629.99 / €629.99 Pieces: 10001 Minifigures: 0 Available: Now
The most expensive LEGO set of 2022 is also the tallest. 10307 Eiffel Tower measures a staggering 149cm high, breaking all previous height records amongst LEGO sets. That size allows for excellent detailing from top to bottom, with intricate metalwork and a tranquil park area at its base.
Featuring some thoughtful design choices to ensure maximum stability, this set is ideal for fans of Paris or architectural triumphs. Of course, as 2022’s priciest set it’s also a choice you have to consider very, very carefully.
We’ve gathered all of these sets in the table below. All of them are currently up for grabs at LEGO.com.
