The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part holds number four spot at US box office

This weekend saw Captain Marvel claim the number one spot at the US box office, while The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part hung on to fourth place.

As expected, the latest from the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) – Captain Marvel – went straight to number one at the US box office. With $153 million, it was the seventh largest opening for a movie in the MCU series.

That pushed How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World into second place, with The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part remaining in fourth place behind Tyler Perry’s A Madea Family Funeral. The brick based animated feature took £3,825,000, showing a 42% drop when compared to the week prior.

In a recent interview, Warner Bros. CEO Kevin Tsujihara recently commented on the film’s disappointing box office. “It didn’t do as well as tracking would’ve suggested, which was a little puzzling. The first movie was so fresh and so different. We need to continually rethink the experience, but the LEGO brand is incredibly strong. On the game side, it’s been an incredible franchise.”
