The many arms of LEGO Marvel’s Doctor Octopus

A new LEGO Marvel Doctor Octopus minifigure is on the way, calling back to the first figure, but his arms have reverted to their original form.

In 76261 Spider-Man Final Battle, the No Way Home set sees the return of Doctor Octopus, Electro and Green Goblin, all with new minifigures.

Based on the film, these minifigures recreate designs from previous iterations of Spider-Man, including some movies that have received their own range of sets.

For Doctor Octopus – or Doc Ock – the arms in 76261 Spider-Man Final Battle use the same technique as they did in the 2004 sets. However, since that time, there have been other builds for the iconic arms.

Also in 2004, the 4 Juniors Spider-Man 2 sets featured a larger Doc Ock minifigure with arms made of a single element that was more static. Later, 76134 Spider-Man: Doc Ock Diamond Heist from 2019 debuted a new iteration of the arms, using droid arms for a simplistic build, suitable for a 4+ set.

2021 saw two more builds for Doc Ock’s arms with a complex construction in 76178 Daily Bugle and another using ball joints in 76174 Spider-Man’s Monster Truck vs. Mysterio. The latter had some of the most movement of any iteration while the former was focused solely on display.

Now, we’re coming full circle and back to the original design for Doc Ock’s arms and it’s been an interesting journey exploring the movement options of various LEGO elements.

76261 Spider-Man Final Battle launches on August 1, 2023, for £94.99 / $109.99 / €104.99 and as well as the returning villains, you can also grab Spider-Man minifigures for Tom Holland, Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield.

LEGO has been a part of my life ever since I was young. It all started when my brother passed down 7657 AT-ST to me. It’s guided me through my early years, through school and eventually through my degree in journalism. I still have all my collection proudly on display, including my many NINJAGO sets, my favourite of all the LEGO Group’s themes. Outside of Brick Fanatics I am an avid gamer and enjoy a good game of Dungeons & Dragons.
