This LEGO Star Wars mod fixes a Fang Fighter faux pas

LEGO Star Wars custom mod brings the Mandalorian Fang Fighter’s coolest feature to brick-built life, thanks to a creative builder on reddit.

LEGO Star Wars 75348 Mandalorian Fang Fighter vs. TIE Interceptor is clearly a set designed for play, with plenty of interactive features such as spring-loaded shooters. The very fact that there are two ships included in one set means it’s geared towards engineering a space battle, with one person taking ‘control’ of each ship.

With that in mind, it seems a missed opportunity, then, to not include what’s arguably the Mandalorian Fang Fighter’s coolest feature: swivel-mounted wings capable of rotating around the body of the ship for extra agility. The brick-built version of the ship doesn’t share the same dexterity (although its slim design does still convey that speed and agility that this type of ship is known for).

However, one LEGO Star Wars fan on reddit has modified the Fang Fighter from 75348 Mandalorian Fang Fighter vs. TIE Interceptor to be able to spin fully. While there’s now a slight gap in between the body of the ship and its wings, the use of axels to hold the ship together means there’s functionality for the wings to fully rotate around the main ship.

While there aren’t any instructions (at the time of writing) for this mod, the pictures above lay out how it was achieved fairly clearly. An even more ambitious LEGO Star Wars builder could even set up a moving display, fixing the wings with a motor to be continually spinning, giving an extra sense of dynamic flight to an otherwise static design.

I write about all the very best fandoms – and that means LEGO, of course. Spending so much time looking at and talking about LEGO sets is dangerous for my bank balance, but the LEGO shelves are thriving. You win some, you lose some.
