Toys R Us in the UK has increased the discount on LEGO sets from 10% to 15% as part of the company’s closing down sale.
All of the UK based Toys R Us stores are expected to close within the next six weeks, as the retailer sells off stock in a nationwide closing down sale. Discounts of up to 30% are now available at the stores that remain open, with the discounts on construction toys – including LEGO sets – up from 10% to 15%.
The full list of discounts, confirming which percentage applies to which product category, can be found at the Toys R Us website. Stores that have already closed cleared through their remaining inventory at 60% off, with further discounts expected in the coming weeks at all stores, as no buyer has been found since the business went into administration.
Toys R Us has proven beyond saving despite efforts being made over the past six months to keep the chain going. A rescue package confirmed last October involved closing a quarter of the retailer’s UK stores, but the company did not trade well enough over Christmas to meet VAT obligations. Over 3,000 jobs will be lost when the retailer closes.
The future of Toys R Us in the USA is also in doubt, with the company likely to go into liquidation and see a large number of stores closed.
