There are two kinds of LEGO Star Wars 25th-anniversary minifigures

It turns out there are two kinds of LEGO Star Wars 25th-anniversary minifigures, but one collection should be significantly easier to complete.

The 25th anniversary of LEGO Star Wars is being celebrated with six one-of-a-kind minifigures of characters that we’d be unlikely to see as minifigures under any other circumstances. Two of these have been revealed so far – Darth Malak in 75379 R2-D2 and ARC Trooper Fives in 75387 Boarding the Tantive IV.

These differ from the 20th-anniversary LEGO Star Wars minifigures in two huge ways. For one, they don’t recreate classic LEGO Star Wars minifigures but depict new characters for the theme, and they don’t feature any celebration of the anniversary in their design.

That’s not to say that these concepts aren’t returning for the 25th anniversary though. The updated edition of the LEGO Star Wars Visual Dictionary for 2024 has its cover and exclusive minifigure revealed earlier today. It features what appears to be a direct recreation of the 1999 Darth Maul minifigure with a double-bladed lightsaber.

The showcase of the minifigure in the corner of the cover specifically shows the back, which features a similar design that celebrates 25 years of LEGO Star Wars.

This is almost certainly a callback to the 20th-anniversary minifigures and despite the lack of a stand, it should pair well with them on display. Two kinds of unique minifigures for the 25th anniversary of LEGO Star Wars weren’t exactly what we expected, but it’s a welcome revelation.

Don’t expect another full range of retro 25th-anniversary minifigures in 2024 though as it’s more than likely just Darth Maul as a one-off exclusive for the book. Still, that just makes the collection much easier to complete.

You can pre-order the LEGO Star Wars Visual Dictionary Updated Edition for £18.39 right now ahead of its release on April 4, 2024, saving 8% on its RRP of £19.99.

LEGO has been a part of my life ever since I was young. It all started when my brother passed down 7657 AT-ST to me. It’s guided me through my early years, through school and eventually through my degree in journalism. I still have all my collection proudly on display, including my many NINJAGO sets, my favourite of all the LEGO Group’s themes. Outside of Brick Fanatics I am an avid gamer and enjoy a good game of Dungeons & Dragons.
