WATCH: LEGO designer Mike Psiaki completely out of context
We interviewed the LEGO designers responsible for 10316 The Lord of the Rings: Rivendell, and as these clips demonstrate, Mike Psiaki sure made it an interesting experience…
Late last month, the Brick Fanatics team hopped on a plane to Billund – the home of the brick – to chat with the design team behind 10316 The Lord of the Rings: Rivendell. Among those LEGO gurus was Mike Psiaki, a mathemagician who’s also worked on all your favourite sets: 21309 NASA Apollo Saturn V, 10294 Titanic, 10305 Lion Knights’ Castle, 10497 Galaxy Explorer and more.
That’s a lot of design pedigree to bring to 10316 The Lord of the Rings: Rivendell, but it turns out Mike is also great on camera. Our interview is full of gold from all four of the designers we interviewed, but if you want just a taste of what’s to come from the full video, check out this clip of Mike Psiaki completely out of context.
Remember to subscribe to our YouTube channel to be the first to see the full interview with the design team, and find out exactly why Mike’s flying the top of Rivendell around like a rocket. You can also check out the veteran designer sans context over on TikTok.
10316 The Lord of the Rings: Rivendell is available now for VIP members, and will launch for everyone else on March 8. Orders placed before then will receive a free copy of 40630 Frodo & Gollum, while 40583 Houses of the World 1 is also available with all purchases above £220 / $250 / €250 (so, including Rivendell) through March 12.

- I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
