You can pose the LEGO Dune set on a real sandworm

The one-of-a-kind LEGO 10327 Dune Atreides Royal Ornithopter set can be posed on top of a real sandworm, provided you know where to look.

After it launched not even two weeks ago, Reddit user OceanicStrawberry has built the new LEGO Dune model that has impressed the team behind the sequel. As well as this, they have trekked to a site that pays tribute to the franchise after a nearby location inspired the books – the Dune Peninsula at Point Defiance Park in Tacoma.

As stated by Metro Parks Tacoma, Frank Herbert was inspired in part by the toxic plumes and slag waste dumped from the Ruston Way smelter from 1890 to 1986. He then went on to write the Dune book series with its focus on environmental waste and restoration. This inspired the movies which in turn has inspired the set, 10327 Dune Atreides Royal Ornithopter has come full circle thanks to the Reddit user.

As depicted in their photos, the trek to the Dune Peninsula didn’t just offer the opportunity to bring the model back to its roots but to pose it on top of a real sandworm, or technically a sandtrout. Nichole Rathburn‘s Little Makers depict the young sandworms jumping in and out of the soil up a hill and it’s the ideal location for a photo shoot with 10327 Dune Atreides Royal Ornithopter.

For many of those picking up 10327 Dune Atreides Royal Ornithopter this month, a trip to this important location in Dune’s creation may not be nearly as feasible as others. At least we can all enjoy knowing what the LEGO 10327 Dune Atreides Royal Ornithopter looks like on top of a real (sort of) sandworm thanks to OceanicStrawberry.

10327 Dune Atreides Royal Ornithopter is available now for £149.99 / $164.99 / €164.99 complete with 1,369 pieces including a variety of exclusive minifigures based on the movie. You can read our in-depth review of the set while you wait for the Dune sequel on March 1.

LEGO has been a part of my life ever since I was young. It all started when my brother passed down 7657 AT-ST to me. It’s guided me through my early years, through school and eventually through my degree in journalism. I still have all my collection proudly on display, including my many NINJAGO sets, my favourite of all the LEGO Group’s themes. Outside of Brick Fanatics I am an avid gamer and enjoy a good game of Dungeons & Dragons.
