2K Games responds to LEGO 2K Drive lost game progression issue

2K Games has temporarily disabled two features in LEGO 2K Drive to prevent players losing their progress, promising the issue will be ‘fully resolved’ in a future patch.

During its early access period last week, multiple players and reviewers reported losing significant progress in LEGO 2K Drive after playing offline and then reconnecting to the game’s servers. At the time, a 2K spokesperson told VGC that the developers were ‘investigating’ the issue – and the studio has now reached out to Brick Fanatics with a further update.

“We are aware that some players have encountered instances of lost game progression in LEGO 2K Drive,” 2K Games shared. “This issue will be fully resolved in a game patch coming soon. To help players avoid this issue in the meantime before the patch rolls out, we are temporarily disabling cloud saves in the game.

“This change will also temporarily disable cross-platform saves. For the time being, we advise that players stick to playing LEGO 2K Drive on a single platform, rather than attempting to change between multiple platforms. This will avoid any loss of progress due to cross-platform saves.”

That’s bad news for anyone currently hopping between consoles (or console and PC) with LEGO 2K Drive, but the situation is at least only temporary. Likewise for cloud backups, though with that in mind it’s probably also a good idea to create multiple manual saves every time you return to the game.

LEGO 2K Drive is available now on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S/X, Nintendo Switch and PC. Check out our review of 2K Games’ first LEGO video game here.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
