Considering the LEGO Group’s wide array of cars from Technic, Speed Champions, Icons and more, it’s interesting to see that the upcoming Technic 2023 build is the first in partnership with NASCAR.

While the build isn’t overly inspired or innovative, the main appeal of this set will likely surprise you as the stickers in 42153 NASCAR Next Gen Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 are more crucial than in any other model before.

At a similar scale to 42138 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500, 42153 NASCAR Next Gen Chevrolet Camaro ZL1’s build will be familiar to those who have put together one of the mid-priced LEGO Technic cars. The level of detail is acceptable but there’s nothing innovative and overly interesting to look at.

You can find a working engine under the hood, the opening section of which is a lot smaller than we would have liked, but is just about large enough to see the engine mechanism. However, the pins aren’t quite heavy enough to get fully weighed down for maximum effect, making for a feature that hasn’t quite lived up to its potential.

The stickers carry a lot of the colour scheme in 42153 NASCAR Next Gen Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 and we can’t deny that the set is interesting to look at. The set notably doesn’t use the real livery of the NASCAR Next Gen Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, which uses white, gold and black as well as a chequered flag. The white, red and blue are undoubtedly more vibrant though are still not the most interesting parts of the livery in 42153 NASCAR Next Gen Chevrolet Camaro ZL1.

The stickers in this set include something that we’ve never seen before outside of a mini-doll theme, at least to our knowledge. There is a holographic effect within each ’75’ on the design that looks especially striking in the light. Those familiar with trading cards or arts and crafts will know the effect, but seeing it on a LEGO model is a unique aspect of this build and one that massively increases its overall appeal.

While the shape and build of 42153 NASCAR Next Gen Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 is nothing special, the LEGO Technic design team have tried something new, or at least unusual with the holographic stickers and to great effect. That said, it doesn’t quite outweigh the uninspired design and disappointing main feature.

Though the features are basic, the appearance of this LEGO Technic set helps it to stand out from the rest of the theme and while you won’t be disappointed with the asking price, we suggest keeping expectations in check.

It’s not often that the stickers of a LEGO set are the most interesting aspect of the model, but 42153 NASCAR Next Gen Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 features an innovative design for them, at least outside of a mini-doll theme. We’d love to see these elsewhere in the future as when the light catches the livery just right, the LEGO Technic creation is eye-catching, to say the least.

Unfortunately, that’s by far the most interesting aspect of 42153 NASCAR Next Gen Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 as the construction is nothing new for this scale of LEGO Technic cars and there are no features that will particularly excite you. Though the price doesn’t demand anything more and its stickers make it relatively unique, 42153 NASCAR Next Gen Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 is uninspired with a main feature that sparsely works to full effect. For once, you need to place the stickers on a LEGO set to get the most out of it.

42153 NASCAR Next Gen Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 is at the same scale as a few other LEGO Technic models at a similar price range. This includes 42123 McLaren Senna GTR, 42138 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 and the more recent 42151 Bugatti Bolide, though we’d argue that 42138 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 is the most similar if you want an apt alternative.

Otherwise, those with a bigger budget looking for an exclusively Chevrolet alternative may want to consider 10304 Chevrolet Camaro Z28, though this is not a Technic set if the complicated system appeals to you.
