LEGO Technic 42158 NASA Mars Rover Perseverance needs a change
LEGO Technic’s 42158 NASA Mars Rover Perseverance needs a change for accuracy after the real Ingenuity helicopter suffered severe damage.
Accuracy-seeking LEGO Technic enthusiasts may need to introduce a small change to 42158 NASA Mars Rover Perseverance thanks to a recent development for one of the set’s inspirations.
As reported by Space.com, the Ingenuity helicopter is damaged and grounded on Mars after part of one of its rotors snapped off. It was first believed that just the tip had broken but better images of Ingenuity have revealed that it is completely missing one of the four rotors. As the helicopter must be balanced to fly, this has grounded Ingenuity for good.

Ingenuity is just one of two models in 42158 NASA Mars Rover Perseverance and one LEGO Technic enthusiast was building the model when the news broke. Rusty_Advice on Reddit decided that the most appropriate response to this news would be to make the set more accurate than it already is.

Thankfully, it’s easy to attach the missing rotor to the LEGO Technic Ingenuity without needing transport to Mars for the repair. Thankfully, Ingenuity’s prime mission has already been completed, proving that powered flight is possible in Mars’ atmosphere, and the damage will only affect its extended mission.
The LEGO Technic set can now act as a scientific homage to the helicopter as it once was and it can be yours for £84.99 / €89.99 / $99.99 with 1,132 pieces overall.
