Its initial appeal may be more limited compared to that of other LEGO DREAMZzz sets, but don’t overlook 71459 Stable of Dream Creatures for its creative, colourful and downright cute content.

In a world of dreams, anything is possible, including a fairly normal stable with less-than-normal animals to care for. 71459 Stable of Dream Creatures is a hidden gem of LEGO DREAMZzz that seems destined to go under the radar.

As suggested in the name, the brunt of the bricks in 71459 Stable of Dream Creatures make up the stable itself, with an admittedly small stable area that can only care for a single animal. However, that oversight doesn’t take away from the rest of the model, which is gorgeous from every angle.

The host of bright colours, a generous dose of beautiful – but by no means necessary – stickers and a simple but interesting layout all add to the overall appearance of the stable, and it is nothing short of stunning.

The exterior has a few notable features including the outlandish plants growing all over the building, and it feels like there’s something new to spot every time you look at it. However, that’s undoubtedly helped in no small part by the eye-catching look of the model.

Functionally, the stable is lacking places to care for animals with only a small space for the cat cactus to rest. Despite this, it’s hard not to love the build and the thoughtful details inside. Aside from the small stable, the rest of the building includes a kitchen, dining area and a windmill with a grinder. Stickers help add a touch of personality to the walls and the wooden struts and the various details prove just how much thought has been poured into this set.

Without villains to fight, the included minifigures are limited to working at the stable, dining on freshly baked bread and otherwise interacting with the two included animals and the Dreamlings.

Two brick-built creatures are featured in 71459 Stable of Dream Creatures. These are the adorable cat cactus and a colourful deer. The build for the cat cactus is simple but full of character and the deer joins many other LEGO DREAMZzz models in that it can be rebuilt into one of two forms.

Using the blue and pink foliage scattered throughout 71459 Stable of Dream Creatures, the deer can switch between a flying pegasus or a forest guardian – and it is exceedingly easy to change from one to the other with no additional elements left, as everything not used is attached to the main model.

There are four minifigures in 71459 Stable of Dream Creatures including Izzie, Zoey, Cooper and Mrs. Castillo. As well as this, you’re also getting Z-Blob and two Dreamlings using the new small figure elements.

All the minifigures are excellent and packed with detail. However, they’re lacking accessories that are included with the same minifigures in other sets and that makes them fundamentally worse, unfortunately.

Still, those wanting to pick up a few of the new minifigures, caring more about the characters than the included pieces, will be thrilled with the selection in 71459 Stable of Dream Creatures.

While the price of £74.99 / $84.99 / €84.99 for 71459 Stable of Dream Creatures’ 681 pieces is undoubtedly high, you truly don’t feel shortchanged with everything in the set.

Sure, there could have been more minifigures and an extra dream creature, but when all’s said and done you’re left with decent value proportionate to the price.

The idea of a peaceful model in an action-focused theme may seem doomed from the start, but 71459 Stable of Dream Creatures executes this concept almost flawlessly. This set is a nice break from the rest of the LEGO DREAMZzz models, with their zany designs and terrifying villains.

Thankfully, 71459 Stable of Dream Creatures is here to whisk us away to a peaceful stable filled with adorable animals and freshly baked bread on which to munch. It may be somewhat expensive at first glance, but there is good value to be had here and it’s one of the most relaxing LEGO sets in a theme that otherwise has you building and battling nightmares.

The only other peaceful set in LEGO DREAMZzz, and what looks like a similarly welcome break from the rest of the theme, is 40657 Dream Village. This set is a lot cheaper than 71459 Stable of Dream Creatures, but it’s arguably the best alternative within the theme.

If you’re after something similarly animal-oriented but without the fantastical design, LEGO Friends 41745 Autumn’s Horse Stable has a similar colour scheme but is firmly planted in the real world.
