The LEGO Foundation has appointed a new CEO

An expert has risen through the ranks of the LEGO Foundation, being appointed its new CEO to lead their future humanitarian and charity projects.

John Goodwin will soon be stepping down as the chief executive officer of the LEGO Foundation as Human rights, diplomacy and international development expert Anne-Birgitte Albrectsen will be taking over the role later this year.

The move comes after the foundation’s activities have expanded four-fold over the last four years, especially in the face of the Coronavirus pandemic, where projects such as Braille Bricks were launched whilst supporting people in need of support in these difficult times.

Anne-Birgitte has had a role in the LEGO Foundation for some time, being appointed the Non-Executive Director in May 2020 and it will be interesting to see how she adapts to the new role.

“Anne-Birgitte is a strong leader and her experience in human rights, sustainable development and advocacy is second-to-none,” said John Goodwin, current CEO of the foundation. “She has a deep understanding of the challenges we face as we seek to empower all children to become creative, engaged, lifelong learners, no matter where they are or what their circumstances may be.”

For the time being, John will stay in the role until September 1, when Anne-Birgitte will take over in leading the LEGO Foundation into the future. Her experience involves the position of Global CEO at Plan International since September 2015.
