Check out all four LEGO NINJAGO City sets together – including 71799 NINJAGO City Markets

Hot on the heels of the reveal of 71799 NINJAGO City Markets, here’s a quick look at how all four LEGO NINJAGO City sets stack up together.

Unveiled just yesterday by the LEGO Group, 71799 NINJAGO City Markets is not only the biggest NINJAGO City set to date, but the biggest NINJAGO set full stop. That’s thanks to its incredible piece count – 6,163 for those playing along at home – and its similarly bewildering footprint, which spans two 32×32-stud baseplates. And in prioritising width, it can’t quite hit the heights of two of its predecessors.

That’s literally speaking, of course: whether 71799 NINJAGO City Markets can rival 70620 NINJAGO City, 70657 NINJAGO City Docks and 71741 NINJAGO City Gardens from a design perspective won’t be properly determined until we have our hands on the set. But thanks to a little Photoshop magic from StoneWars, we can at least see how the four sets line up together from one perspective.

This image places 2017’s 70260 NINJAGO City on one end of the cityscape and 2021’s 71741 NINJAGO City Gardens on the other, which makes sense given they’re both traditional corner modular buildings. By contrast, 70657 NINJAGO City Docks and 71799 NINJAGO City Markets are straight-edged entries in the collection, and so sit sandwiched between their taller counterparts.

You can see from this picture how 71799 NINJAGO City Markets helps to bridge the sheer height difference between 70620 NINJAGO City and 70657 NINJAGO City Docks, a problem that’s plagued the original two sets since the docks landed on shelves five years ago. It still leaves a significant vertical jump between that set and 71741 NINJAGO City Gardens, but that’s a problem for the next instalment to solve…

Given these are modular buildings, this obviously isn’t the only way you’ll be able to rearrange the sets if you’re lucky enough to own all four. (70620 and 70657 are long retired and command huge prices on the aftermarket.) But it does offer us a solid impression of one configuration, and how 71799 NINJAGO City Markets holds up aesthetically with its counterparts.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
