LEGO 71799 NINJAGO City Markets modular building revealed

The LEGO Group has officially unveiled the next addition to the NINJAGO modular building line-up in 71799 NINJAGO City Markets.

Unveiled alongside the rest of the LEGO NINJAGO summer 2023 wave, 71799 NINJAGO City Markets will join 70620 NINJAGO City, 70657 NINJAGO City Docks and 71741 NINJAGO City Gardens on June 1. It’s the biggest of the four sets yet, coming in at a blistering 6,163 pieces, and sits over two 32×32-stud baseplates. That’s the equivalent width of two classic modular buildings.

The set spreads its part count horizontally rather than vertically as a result, which means it doesn’t quite reach the dizzying heights of 71741 NINJAGO City Gardens. But it does come in at a respectable 46cm tall, 51cm wide and 25cm deep. And it’s still set across four floors, so it should help to bridge the gap in height between 70657 NINJAGO City Docks and the other two current buildings.

Those floors include a bakery, apartments, rooftop food court and more, while the set apparently also incorporates a working elevator – much like 70620 NINJAGO City – and a cable car to traverse between the two sides of the markets.

You’ll find a healthy 21 minifigures in the box, meanwhile, among which are urban versions of NINJAGO’s two new characters Arin and Sora, Blacksmith Kai, Detective Zane, Gayle Gossip, Hounddog McBrag, Chamille, Dareth and Miss Demeanor. Those are some pretty deep cuts for LEGO NINJAGO fans, in line with the minifigure selections from previous NINJAGO modular buildings.

You’ll be able to purchase 71799 NINJAGO City Markets from June 1 for £319.99 / $369.99 / €369.99. Keep an eye on Brick Fanatics for our review before then.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
