Are more LEGO Minions on the way?

The continued success of the Minions franchise (and an ambitious new advertisement) suggests the LEGO Minions theme could bounce back.

Over the last few years, the pop culture landscape has been dominated by the Minions of the Despicable Me franchise. The babbling yellow beans have proven remarkably popular, earning truckloads of merchandise and two spinoff movies. The broader franchise has gone on to become the highest-grossing animated film franchise of all time, with the first Minions spin-off the most successful entry to date.

The LEGO Group has also jumped on the Minions bandwagon, with a small but respectable line of LEGO sets. The company has even participated in the marketing for Minions: The Rise of Gru, recently posting a new animation on its Twitter page. The level of care in said animation suggests the LEGO Group sees Minions as a worthy investment.

Unfortunately, the LEGO sets inspired by the film have had a tough time. While Minions: The Rise of Gru appeared in cinemas this year, its LEGO tie-ins appeared as far back as 2020. The film itself was delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic, to the point where one of its sets retired before the film’s release date.

Most of the other entries in the LEGO Minions range are also due to retire this year. This means that any LEGO fans after a Minion fix will soon be struggling to get it. However, with a new Despicable Me film in 2024, we could get some new LEGO Minions sets before too long. Given the franchise’s continued popularity, it’s hard to expect anything else.

You can check out the current LEGO Minions lineup over at LEGO.com. Two LEGO Minions sets are actually discounted in the UK at the moment – and with a double VIP promotion also running until tomorrow, now is an excellent time to buy.
