Avatar: The Way of Water on track for $400 million worldwide opening

The long-awaited Avatar: The Way of Water sequel is reportedly on track for a $400 million opening weekend at the international box office.

According to Deadline, Avatar: The Way of Water is currently set to make over $134 million domestically and updates to the report suggest that the film is finishing the weekend with $434.5 million at the worldwide box office.

For comparison, the first film made $242 million internationally during its opening weekend and for a film coming 13 years after the first during a time when cinemas may be closed – and with a lengthy runtime – it’s notable, to say the least.

With three more Avatar movies currently planned following the release of Avatar: The Way of Water earlier this week, we’ll have to see how the weeks ahead go for the sequel at the box office to gauge what effect the results will have on the future of the franchise.

Provided it continues as planned, the LEGO Group should have more than enough content on which to base future LEGO Avatar sets. Nothing is confirmed at the time of writing so for now we can only look forward to the release of The Way of Water models on January 1, 2023.

LEGO has been a part of my life ever since I was young. It all started when my brother passed down 7657 AT-ST to me. It’s guided me through my early years, through school and eventually through my degree in journalism. I still have all my collection proudly on display, including my many NINJAGO sets, my favourite of all the LEGO Group’s themes. Outside of Brick Fanatics I am an avid gamer and enjoy a good game of Dungeons & Dragons.
